Background:
Like most individuals, I have been a part-time photographer using photography to capture family events and vacation experiences starting in the 70's. For me the equipment of the day was Kodak Instamatic, an Argus. We purchased Kodak or Fuji film, found the lowest cost photo processing locations and mail-in services (Mayflower Photo Labs). Then the digital age came, and film became a thing of the past . As my interest grew, I decided to up my game and purchase a single lens Canon SX-40 (with max zoom 40x normal view). With digital images, I needed a photo editor for organizing , processing and enhancing the digital photos and selected Picasa by Google (great free editing software). I now was ready for real photography tools and I purchased a 'real' professional camera - the Nikon D5100, and upgrading to Photoshop Elements I was ready to go Pro (well, not really). I still have and use the Nikon D5100.
I paired the Nikon D5100 with a Tamron 18-210 mm and this became everyday photography equipment. Then my camera world exploded, with new software, SLR camera options , online tutorials and local photography groups. Fast forward today. My equipment now consists of the Nikon 5100, a Sony mirrorless A6500 with a Hasselblad/ Sony 18mm -200mm telephoto lens, a Sony kit 16mm - 50 mm short telephoto lens, a Sony 50mm f/1.8 prime lens and a Sigma 16 mm f/1.4 prime lens . My primary editing software is Adobe Lightroom CC Classic. I combine that with the NIK Collection suite, Skylum's Luminar 4 (and AI coming) and easyHDR.
My Photographic Style:
In early 2018, I became interested in Low-Light photography which is essentially shooting during Golden Hour and Low Light/Night Time .
I also found, low-light photography introduces different lighting conditions not not available in daytime. shooting. These photographic scenes allow me to experience locations in a different 'light' - offering strong contrasts of color and brightness, while opening up post-processing opportunities for HDR (high dynamic range) possibilities.
In late 2019 I started exploring B&W photography. I was drawn to this style of photography that emphasizes simplicity in texture, shape and composition. Much of the Photography Masters' work is timeless and very often B&W. I now 2020) I have ventured into drone photography, using a Mavic Air 2 - offering compositional variations, not available 'from the ground'.
